Happy New Year
So it’s a New Year with a brand new Newsletter and a fresh new colour scheme to go with it! I would like to wish a Happy New Year to all UCD Karate Members past and present. I hope 2012 is a great year for you all and a successful one for the Karate Club.
The Club is back in action today and there will be training tonight at 8pm in Hall C of the UCD Sports Center. Hope I see you all down there so we can begin our preparations for the Inter-varsities in earnest.
If you have any friends in UCD who might be interested in joining Karate now is the time for them to join as re-freshers day is coming up on the 24th of January from 10am to 4pm in the Astra Hall of the Student Center and we will once again commence introductory classes for new members.
The Inter-Varsities
The date for the 2012 Inter-varsities in Cork have been announced. They will be held on Saturday the 11th of February in the Mardyke Arena of University College Cork’s sport center.
It is URGENT that all of you who wish to attend reply to this e-mail stating what categories you will be competing in (kata, Kumita, team kata and team kumite) and what grade you are are. If you do not reply you will not be able to attend the event as UCC have requested attendance numbers in advance and we need time to arrange the club subsidies for those attending. If you would like to go but are not 100% sure of your attendance please reply with your information as I would rather make arrangements for a few extra than a few under and risk people not being able to attend in the end.
The Martial Arts Ball
Martial Arts Ball tickets are available from the club for €35 – members can invite friends to the event and past members are welcome. The Ball is happening very soon and it is important that you secure your tickets immediately as they are on sale for a limited time and numbers are limited and you don’t want to miss out on what will be the biggest Social Martial Arts event of the year. “The Martial Arts Ball has been confirmed for the 1st of February 2012 at the Ballroom in the D4 Hotels Ballsbridge, it is a formal (black tie/evening wear) event and a limited number of tickets are left and are on sale NOW – tickets are €35 and are being sold through UCD Martial Arts Clubs, they are open to alumni and friends of club members. The ball is expected to be a spectacular night with ticket price including a wine reception, chocolate fountain, sumo suits, a buffet dinner and a free bus to a city center Night Club afterwards. DIT are coming to visit
For the first time in recent years DIT will be coming to UCD for a friendly competition on Monday the 16th of January. Everyone is welcome to attend on the night and it would be great to have full attendance, so that we can offer them a warm welcome and make sure they have a great night with us. We will all be heading to the bar afterward so it will also be a great night for all of you to catch up with one another after the Christmas break.
