Welcome to our new weekly news letter
We have decide to start issuing weekly updates to all members, to keep you informed of upcoming events and remind you when training takes place! Awesome huh?
Karate Gi’s and Social Events
If you would like to buy a Karate Gi (Karate suit) we will be taking numbers for orders over the next few classes, please have your height and weight measurements with you when you put your name down so that we can get the right size. Once we have numbers we will get back to you with prices (the bigger the order the lower the price generally) at most it will cost €22 for a beginner Gi and around €50 for a heavier better quality Gi if any graded members wish to upgrade or invest in a new Gi (the higher the quality the higher the price generally speaking)
It’s time to get social! The club will be having its first (of many) movie nights on Monday the 14th of November from 8pm in the blue room of the student center so make sure you come along and BYOB! It’s free and an excellent chance for even the most impoverished student to hang out with fellow karateka and have some fun.
We have also looked into the BYOB bowling in Leisureplex Stillorgan and unfortunately Monday nights are not available as the bowling league takes place every Monday. So if people are available and would like to go to Friday Night BYOB bowling which is €10 from 7pm till 12am and includes unlimited bowling and pool let me know and we’ll set a date for our first trip – if there are enough people around we could go this Friday in Halloween costumes and head into town afterwards?
Social mornings in UCD, very soon the Karate club will be starting a weekly social morning where members can catch up, have a chat, eat brunch, grab a coffee etc together in the Student Center and we want to know what morning is best! So please give us your feedback, what morning do you have an hour free and would like to hang out with your fellow Karate Clubbers?
Membership and Feedback
I would like to remind all members that is of the utmost importance that membership fees must be paid in full within the next two weeks in order for you to be fully insured and eligible for grading and competition. Fee’s are as follows:
€10 for new members (Undergraduate and Postgraduate)
€40 for returning members (Undergraduate and Postgraduate)
*Alumni members please contact with regards to fees.
Feedback – this is your club and we want to know what you think. If you have any great ideas for social events, have suggestions for what the club should be doing to make things better for members, are interested in covering something again in class or would like a class that focuses on a particular aspect of Karate let us know and we’ll do our best to arrange it.
Committee Meeting
Just a quick reminder that there will be a committee meeting on Wednesday the 26th (today) at 10pm after class. The meeting will be held in the club secretary’s kitchen (thanks Sarah!) and a number of us will be driving the short distance from UCD to the house if any committee members need a lift to the location.
Training Times
Training is in Hall B of the UCD Sports Center from 6-8pm Monday’s and 8-10pm Wednesdays. Come along even if you can only make the second half of class, one class a week or even a few a month – we’d love to see you there!
